In the following, we will look at the basics of folders in Kontainer.

Create folders
Create new folders by clicking on the New Folder icon in the top right.
Choose, which folder type the new folder should be. And confirm by clicking create.
Folder types
Depending on your Kontainer plan, you can create the following folder types:
- Normal folders
- Album folders
- Smart folders
- Mirror folders
Normal folders
Normal Folders are the only folder type containing original files.
This means it’s the folder type that users upload files to.
Album folders
Pro+ feature
Album folders contain redirects or aliases of existing original files in your Kontainer. So, without creating duplicates, you can display the same files in multiple folders.
This is ideal for sharing files with different target groups without having the same file clutter and filling up unnecessary space in your Kontainer.

Smart folders
Premium+ feature
Create automated workflows that move your data based on specified criteria.
A typical example of this is approval workflows or licenses and expiry dates. So, if a license or consent agreement has expired, the file is automatically moved to a folder – i.e., “expired” or “expires in 6 months”.
Another example could be that if newly uploaded files are tagged with a particular value (such as campaign, product category, etc.), they will automatically be moved or linked to in a respective smart folder.
Mirror folders
Mirror folders create a 1:1 alias of the same folder – without creating duplicate assets.
They will automatically update if files are uploaded or deleted from the original folder.
However, you can still design these mirror folders differently than the original folders. In that way, you can use the page editor to design folders and landing pages according to different user groups.
Move folders
Move a folder by right-clicking on the folder tile or on the folder name in the menu on the left.
Hit move and choose the new folder location.
Alternatively, you can drag and drop a folder in place via the folder menu in the menu of the left.
This requires that you have set your default sorting settings to “custom.”
Go to settings > configuration to ensure the folder sort order is set to custom.
Delete folders
Delete folders by right-clicking on the folder tile or on the folder name in the menu on the left.
Folders will be kept in the trash, where you can easily restore files and folders if you accidentally delete them.
